February 18th, the Blackford School Board voted to approve the conditional waiver which eliminates the delayed
start on Wednesdays beginning February 26th.  This change was approved for this year only.  We plan to return
to the delayed start on Wednesdays next school year.  Starting Wednesday, February 26th we will start every day
at 8:05 am for the remainder of this school year.

Hello All!

We are excited to see winter ending and spring beginning here at Blackford Junior High School.  Don’t forget about our Wednesday time change and that our year has been extended because of the harsh winter season.  We are only days away from the start of our spring sport season.  Make sure your students are getting enough rest and eating breakfast so they are energized for each day.  All of our Track events are away this year so please make room in your schedule for a road trip to support our athletes when your schedule allows.

ISTEP has become the focal point for this time of year and a great deal of pressure is put on our staff and students.  Please keep an open line of communication with your student’s teachers so you are up to date on what is happening in the classroom.  You can help with your student’s success by making sure they are in bed on time and they have breakfast before they arrive if possible.  Make sure they are addressing their homework and they understand the importance of focusing on doing their very best on the ISTEP!  We believe our students are prepared for ISTEP and our acuity C scores support our feelings.  The staff has worked hard in preparing the students for the challenge and we believe the scores will show how hard our students have worked.  Please take a moment to recognize how well they have done by thanking them and encouraging them to keep up the good work.

Remember, I always have an open door policy and would love to talk to you.  I believe if we communicate, collaborate and cooperate we can accomplish great things for our students.  Doing what is best for kids takes a great deal of work, but in my opinion it is well worth our time!!!
