The official groundbreaking for the Blackford County Schools Performing Arts Center took place last evening, March 10, at the Blackford Jr.-Sr. High School campus. Students, staff, board members, architects, construction managers and members of the community joined in the celebration to kick off the construction of the facility, which will be located directly north of BJSHS.
Superintendent Chad Yencer welcomed the audience and noted that the many talented BJSHS band, choir, and drama students will soon have a new, state of the art venue to showcase their talents. Construction is set to be completed on the PAC in May of 2027.
Yencer noted that the PAC will serve as a central hub for speakers, class meetings, awards ceremonies, parent nights, and more.
He added that the school board intends for the 700-seat-space to be used by the Blackford County community, and is excited for the wide range of events and opportunities the space will offer. Yencer also praised the board for its fiscal responsibility in maintaining the current tax rate with no additional taxes being sought to fund the Performing Arts Center.
Watch for updates as construction progresses!
