Greetings from Blackford Primary School. If your student participated in the PTO fundraiser sales, please be prepared to pick up your student's order between 3:15 and 5:00 on Monday, November 25th. The items will be in the main lobby of the school. Please do not pull into the main drive until 3:15 to assure all of our buses have departed.

How do we make the lesson memorable? By making it fun! First grade students in Mrs. Rachael Story's class had to recognize and grab the correct blended sound before their partner. Talk about some quick thinking! Great job, Cubs!

The School Board approved the 2025-2026 BCS Calendar during last night's meeting.

The second grade students at Blackford Primary School were given the opportunity to write Thank You notes to Richard (Dick) Thurman, Army 101st Airborne Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Thurman was a member of an Honor Flight on September 14, 2024. While on the flight home from Washington, D.C. they had a mail call. Mr. Thurman was given a packet of thank you notes and pictures written by the second grade students. Mr. Thurman wanted to come and thank the students personally for their kindness. He came to Blackford Primary School on Tuesday, September 12, 2024. Mr. Thurman discussed with the students what a veteran is, and why veterans should be honored. He also shared with the second graders about his duties while serving in Vietnam, the medals he was awarded, and even brought in his dress uniform for the students to see.

Welcome back, Brody!

The votes are in! Mrs. Julia Hiatt's first grade class at BPS was excited for Election Day. We read the story Duck for President by Doreen Cronin. Students got to vote for who they thought should be president... Duck or Farmer Brown. They got to vote in the voting booth and the class voted by a landslide of 14 to 9. The class wanted Duck to be President!! We had fun making a vote and deciding on who they would want to run the farm.
What a great lesson! Congratulations, Duck!

BPS students learned about 4-H last week thanks to a visit from Ms. Kyli Penrod, Blackford County's 4-H Extension Director promoting 4-H Youth Development. During the visit, Kyli met with students during their library class to introduce them to 4H. In addition to talking about all things 4H, they also read the book, Creepy Carrots, and built a fence using toothpicks and marshmallows. Our students had a blast!

Attention families that attended the food pantry at Blackford Primary School on Monday evening. If you received one of the premade salads, please dispose of it immediately! The USDA has recalled these items. Do not consume!

Hartford City firemen were on hand at BPS today to share an incredibly important lesson with some of our youngest students- fire safety! As temperatures continue to trend downward and more people turn on furnaces and alternative heat sources, their message is a timely one. Please be sure to talk to all of your children about the importance of fire safety!
Thank you to the HCFD for sharing your time and energy with our students!
